Resumen:

This talk will present work on trying to link stressors over the life course (e.g. low SES, widowhood, living alone, growing up without a biological father) to markers of poor health. The markers of poor health under study are biomarkers indicating function of the neuroendocrine system, a system important in maintaining good health. Results will be presented on work conducted using nationally representative data on Taiwan and Costa Rica. A conclusion of the research thus far is that there appears to be only a weak link between indicators of a stressful life history and the neuroendocrine biomarkers.
